We're married

I'M MARRIED.  I'M MARRIED.  I'M MARRIED.

Now that is out of my system, hi, we're back.  It's been 17 days of marriage with only one small disagreement.  I call that a success.

I returned to work on Monday to 400 emails and the same questions from multiple people,

"So....how does it feel to be married?" (with very strong emphasis on the word MARRIED)

I know that they mean well, but come on, how do you expect me to answer that?   It's not appropriate for the workplace for me to dive into a philosophical conversation based on feminism, equal rights for women, and changing my name with a girl I bump into while getting a coffee in the morning.  Nor would it be cool to mention, to the guy I banter with about reality TV, our hot, married sex life.  My go-to answer has been something along the lines of, "it hasn't really hit us yet, but it's wonderful to see the ring on his finger when we are sitting watching So You Think You Can Dance."

Then, Ellen Degeneres and Portia De Rossi where on Oprah on Monday discussing the importance of marriage equality.  It doesn't matter if you are marrying a man, a woman, or a goat, married is married is married.  As they spoke, Ellen described the feeling of being married perfectly, she said:

"Anybody who's married knows there is a difference.  It feels like you're home.  There's an anchor, there's a safety.  I'm going to be with her until the day I die and I know that."

That is exactly how I feel.  He anchors me, forever.

  1. very true!! it's not something that really goes into words, you just know. and it's good! ps. why why WHY do people insist on asking that question? especially other newly married people? i'm pretty sure they know how unanswerable that question is!
